Broken Windows

Broken Windows, a constructed fine art - identity project, depicts the childhood memories of my brother’s struggles with depression.  It is also a universal story of an illness that is often unrecognized in children and untreated.  Facial identity is somewhat hidden, and this removal of likeness invites the viewer into the visual narrative.   The  project depict scenes that represent the darkness that consumed my brother’s childhood.   Blur and light are used to give the illusion of distorted memories and travel through time.   Artifacts and objects serve as visual clues to the isolation, sadness and irritability exhibited by my brother.  My photographic style emphasizes dim light and limited space to convey the psychological conditions of depression.  I envision these images will serve as a form of emotional support for those struggling with depression.  I also hope to raise public awareness of the symptoms and warning signs of depression so others might seek appropriate treatment and support.
